Alexandra Stevenson (born December 21, 1980 in La Jolla , California ) is a former American tennis player .

Career

Julius Erving's daughter , who loves to play on the lawn, began playing tennis at the age of nine.

In 1997 she and Marissa Irvin won the doubles competition for women at the US Open . In the final they defeated Cara Black and Irina Selyutina 6: 2, 7: 6.

In 1999 Stevenson became a professional player. In the same year she was in the individual competition at Wimbledon, after she had started as a qualifier, sensationally in the semifinals . After victories over Amy Frazier , Wolha Barabanschtschykawa , Julie Halard , Lisa Raymond and Jelena Dokić, she lost to the eventual winner Lindsay Davenport .

On the WTA Tour she won the double title of the Leipzig tournament alongside Serena Williams in 2002 . In the same year she reached her best position in the world rankings with 18th place; frequent breaks from injuries caused her to slide down the rankings again and again. She also won an ITF title in singles .

For the US Fed Cup team , she played two games in 2003; she lost her singles, but won her doubles alongside Lisa Raymond.

She played her last professional tournament in November 2018 in Toronto and has not been in the world rankings since July 2019.
