Alexandru Barbu

Alexandru Barbu (born March 8, 1987 in Sibiu ) is a Romanian ski racer .

He got into skis for the first time when he was two and a half years old and he has been skiing as a competitive sport since the age of 16. In 2004 Barbu won the gold medal in combination at the Junior World Championships in Maribor , which no Romanian had ever achieved before.

In 2009 Barbu took part in the World Championships in Val-d'Isère , but did not reach the goal in either slalom or giant slalom. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was 77th in the giant slalom. At the 2013 World Championships in Schladming , he improved to 53rd place.

In 2014 Barbu took part in the Winter Olympics in Sochi , where he competed in slalom and giant slalom. In slalom he reached 21st place and in giant slalom he was 48. At the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek , he landed in giant slalom on 47th place. In St. Moritz at the 2017 World Championships , he did not reach the finish line in either slalom or giant slalom. In 2018 Barbu took part in his second Olympic Games . In Pyeongchang he reached the 55th place in the giant slalom.
