Alfons Klühspies
Alfons Klühspies (born July 11, 1899 in Birkenfeld near Marktheidenfeld , † March 5, 1975 in Würzburg ) was a Lower Franconian painter committed to abstraction , who was considered an outsider in the Franconian artistic landscape, which was characterized by naturalism and German late impressionism .
Life
The son of a long-established farming family, who already showed a clear artistic talent in his drawings as a pupil, studied after the First World War in Frankfurt am Main at the Kunstgewerbeschule and at the Städelsche Kunstakademie with Emil Gies and Johann Vincenz Cissarz . During a study visit to Paris in 1924/1925 he familiarized himself with current trends, such as those cultivated in particular by Robert Delaunay and František Kupka , who were valued by the masters of the “ Blue Rider ” . From 1933 he worked in his own studio in Berlin until he was called up for military service again in 1939. An air raid on Berlin in 1944 destroyed almost all of his early artistic work. After his return from British captivity in 1946, Klühspies built up a new life as a freelance painter, first in Birkenfeld , and from 1949 in Würzburg .
