Karl Alfred Eugen Neu (born December 21, 1871 in Reichenbach im Vogtland , † November 17, 1969 in Leipzig ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD , SED ).

Life

Alfred Neu was born the son of a tailor. After attending school, he studied law from 1893 to 1896, practiced as a lawyer in Leipzig from 1901 to 1922 and then became president of the local court there . In addition, from 1922 he was director of the Leipzig Regional Court . He joined the SPD in 1910 and was a member of the Saxon state parliament from 1926 to 1933 . From August 15, 1923 to January 4, 1924, he was Minister of Justice in the governments of the Free State of Saxony led by Prime Ministers Erich Zeigner and Alfred Fellisch . At the same time he was Saxony's representative to the Reichsrat . In addition, until 1933 he was a member of the Republican Judges' Association and chairman of the Leipzig branch of the German League for Human Rights .

Neu was dismissed as Leipzig district court director in 1933 by the National Socialists. From 1935 to 1945 he worked as an hour bookkeeper. After the end of the war, Neu was President of the Leipzig Regional Court from 1945 to 1951 and worked as legal advisor for the Leipziger Volkszeitung from 1951 to 1961 . He joined the SED in 1946 and was a city ​​councilor in Leipzig from 1945 to 1951 .
