Alfred Schmidt (born May 1, 1905 in Ruhla ; † May 18, 1975 in Rüsselsheim ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ).

Life

Family and education

Alfred Schmidt, the son of the lathe operator Ernst Schmidt and his wife Anna born Flick, from the western Thuringian mountain town of Ruhla , completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker in his hometown after attending primary school .

The literature lover, who mastered Esperanto , married Martha, née Matthes, in 1933. The children named Inge and Helmut came from this connection. Alfred Schmidt died in Rüsselsheim in May 1975 just after he had turned 70.

Professional and political career

He who joined the SPD in 1927 got a job as a toolmaker at Adam Opel AG in Rüsselsheim that same year . In 1945 Alfred Schmidt moved to the city administration of Rüsselsheim, in 1946 he was appointed first alderman and in 1948 first councilor of the city of Rüsselsheim. In 1964, Alfred Schmidt, who was also the first member of the district, was elected as the district administrator of the Groß-Gerau district, succeeding Wilhelm Seipp, who had died the previous year . Alfred Schmidt - under whose leadership the modern district administration was further expanded - was ceremoniously adopted into retirement in 1970.
