Alfredo Bernardini

Alfredo Bernardini (* 1961 in Rome ) is an Italian oboist , university professor and conductor.

Life

After taking oboe lessons in his home country, Bernardini enrolled at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 1981 to deepen his studies in baroque oboe and historical performance practice . He studied with the oboists Bruce Haynes (1942–2011) and Ku Ebbinge (* 1948) in order to complete his studies in 1987 with a soloist diploma.

After his studies he played in numerous ensembles of the early music scene, such as the La Petite Bande , The English Concert , the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir , Jordi Savalls Hespèrion XXI and his Le Concert des Nations , the Bach Collegium Japan , the Berlin Baroque -Compagney , the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the Finnish Baroque Orchestra. In 1989 he founded the Ensemble Zefiro with the brothers Paolo (oboe) and Alberto Grazzi (bassoon) , which has since performed successfully in variable ensembles. The ensemble has given concerts at international festivals in European countries, especially in France, Italy, Austria ( Styriarte 2020), Germany Days of Early Music in Herne (2010), Days of Early Music in Regensburg (2018), but also in North and South America, in China and Japan.

Bernardini has participated in more than 100 CD recordings, several of which have won international record awards such as the Grand Prix du Disque , the Choc du Monde de la Musique de l'année, Diapason d'Or , Gramophone Editor's Choices and the Cannes Classic Award 1995 were awarded. Alfredo Bernardini is a guest conductor of various baroque orchestras such as the Concerto Copenhagen . Several times he was the conductor of the European Union's baroque orchestra (Eubo), which consists of young musicians and with whom he has performed in Germany, Spain and China.

In addition to his career as a performing musician, he does intensive research into the history of woodwind instruments and built copies of historical oboes himself until 2008. From 1992 to 2015 he taught at the Conservatory in Amsterdam. He teaches at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona from 2002 to 2007 and has been professor of historical oboe at the Salzburg Mozarteum University since 2014 . He is a guest lecturer at universities in various countries and teaches in numerous master classes.

Alfredo Bernardini is the director and oboist of the Quartetto Bernardini , and his daughter Cecilia Bernardini , who was born in 1984 and who is now a sought-after concertmaster and ensemble director, is the first of the ensemble.

Bernardini wrote musicological articles for renowned international journals, for the research portal of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (RIMAB) and for the second edition of the Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians .
