Algiasi I. Tocco (also Agesilao; † 1461) from the Neapolitan noble family Tocco was a Neapolitan patrician , 2nd Lord of Montemiletto , 1st Lord of Montefusco and was in the service of the Anjou and the Aragonese .

Life

Algiasi I. was the son of Guglielmo III. († 1408 in Manfredonia), the 2nd Count of Martina , the Lord of Pomigliano d'Arco and one of his three wives.

When his father, 1st Lord of Montemiletto, was suspected in 1404 of having made secret agreements with Raimondo Orsini del Balzo , the 14th Prince of Taranto , he and his three sons of Algiasi, Pietro III. and Leonardo imprisoned at Castel Capuano in Naples and released in 1408 with a promise to sell his fiefdom.

After Guglielmo's death, Algiasi went into exile in Greece . In 1418 he returned to Italy and shortly afterwards occupied his father's former fiefdom with the help of the Filangieri Montemiletto, Vitulano and Pomigliano d'Arco families .

Algiasis cousin Carlo I , despot of Epirus (1411-1429), bequeathed all of his property in Naples and in the kingdom to him on June 21, 1418 . On April 28, 1418, his brother Leonardo gave him half of his houses in Naples.

On October 29, 1420, Queen Johanna II. From the House of Anjou reassigned Algias to the status of barons and on July 20, 1425 he was pardoned for the armed conquest of Montemiletto.

King Alfonso V of Aragon granted him numerous privileges : on May 3, 1438, he received the barony of Tocco , which already belonged to his ancestors. On May 5, 1438 he was awarded Torre di Montefusco. On May 6, 1438, the possession of Montemiletto, Cerreto and Pomigliano d'Arco was confirmed to him. He received another privilege on June 16, 1440.

Algiasi lost Pomigliano in the Battle of Sarno , which took place on July 7, 1460 between the Aragonese troops of King Ferdinand I of Naples and the Anjou troops of John of Anjou , Duke of Calabria .

Algiasi I died in 1461 in an unknown location. After 5 generations, the line with Giambattista II. Tocco († will of November 21, 1631) died out. The possession of Montemiletto went to Carlo, cousin of Giambattista II, who had been adopted by him in 1614.
