Algirdas Jurevičius (born March 24, 1972 in Vievis , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Telšiai .

Life

Jurevičius attended the children's music school until 1987 and then nine classes in the middle school in his hometown Vievis. From 1986 to 1991 he also directed the choir and worked as an organist at the parish church there. He then studied at the Tallat Kelpša Conservatory in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius . In 1990/1991 he worked as a religion teacher in the 44th Middle School in Vilnius.

From 1991 to 1996 he completed his bachelor's degree in theology at the Kaunas seminary (with distinction) and from 1996 to 1998 his master's degree in theology (subject dogmatics ) at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. From 1996 to 1998 he taught dogmatic theology at the Kaunas seminary, and in 1999 he worked as an assistant at the VDU. In July and August 1996 he learned German at the Herder Institute at Leipzig University .

Algirdas Jurevičius received on December 26, 1996, the sacrament of Holy Orders . From 2000 to 2004 he studied for a doctorate at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main . There he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the theology of the diaconate .

On 2 July 2018 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Materiana and auxiliary bishop in Kaunas . The Archbishop of Kaunas, Lionginas Virbalas , ordained him bishop on August 19 of the same year in Kaunas. Co-consecrators were Jonas Ivanauskas , Bishop of Kaišiadorys , and its predecessor Juozapas Matulaitis .

On June 1, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Telšiai. The inauguration took place on June 29 of the same year.

Jurevičius is responsible for questions of church doctrine within the Lithuanian Bishops' Conference .
