Allan Sekula

Allan Sekula (born January 15, 1951 in Erie , Pennsylvania , † August 10, 2013 in Los Angeles ) was an American artist and critic . He worked mainly with photographic means.

Life

Sekula achieved greater awareness with the work Fish Story , which was shown at Documenta11 . He also took part in documenta 12 .

His works can be found in the collections of MACBA (Barcelona), Museum Folkwang (Essen), Getty Research Institute , LACMA , MOCA (all three in Los Angeles), Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Whitney (New York), Center Pompidou (Paris), SFMOMA (San Francisco), and Generali Foundation (Vienna),

Sekula lived in Los Angeles . He has been teaching photography and media art at CalArts since 1985 .
