history

In 1896 the Borsig works were relocated from Moabit to Tegel . Workers' settlements for workers and their families from the Rhineland and Silesia were built close to the factory from 1898 onwards . These were mostly Catholic . But it was not until April 1, 1938, on the initiative of the pastor of the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Tegel, that the All Saints Curate was established . At the end of 1938, construction of the rectory, which also served as an emergency church , was completed. For pastoral care could Congregation of the Sacred Heart priests are obtained which already since 1908 in Wedding were active in the labor ministry. With the beginning of the Second World War, the construction of a church was a long way off. It was not until 1954 that the congregation received the financial means to build its own church from the American “Wooden Church Crusade”. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 30, 1954 . The foundation stone was laid on October 4, 1954, the topping-out ceremony on November 15, 1954 and the consecration of the church on July 3, 1955. Until 2004, the All Saints Church was also the parish church of the parish, then All Saints and St. Bernhard merged to form the parish of St. Bernhard . The parish church of the new congregation is St. Bernhard, All Saints is the second place of worship.

Building description

The church designed by Felix Hinssen takes up the Berlin tradition of the early 1930s. As an extension to the older rectory, a hall church is built as a plastered masonry structure. The side bell tower consists of two side walls made of reinforced concrete , in between, somewhat drawn in, the bell chamber , which is covered with a barrel vault. The front surfaces of the bell chamber were glazed in the mid-1990s. The nave is covered with a hipped gable roof . The facade facing the street has a rectangular portal and is dominated by the large rose window above , behind which the gallery for the organ is located. The side walls have high-lying round windows .

Because of cracks in the plaster, the interior of the church was faced with bricks in 1967, and it was given a wave-like folded wooden ceiling. The retracted chancel was furnished with a crucifix by Paul Brandenburg in 1969 . He also created the altar , the ambo and the tabernacle .

Bells and chimes

For cost reasons, the bell room was initially empty. On April 2, 1961, on Easter Vigil, the ringing of four bronze bells, cast by Feldmann & Marschel , announced the resurrection of Christ.
