Alliance is a European e-sports team. It was founded in April 2013 and is currently in the disciplines Dota 2 , Hearthstone , Quake and Super Smash Bros. active. Previously, the team also had a League of Legends team and two StarCraft 2 players under contract.
The team gained particular fame by winning the International 2013 in Dota 2, the most highly endowed e-sports tournament of all time with over $ 2.8 million at the time.
history
Alliance was founded as an organization in April 2013 and initially consisted only of the Dota 2 team and StarCraft 2 player Johan "NaNiwa" Lucchesi . NaNiwa was considered one of the best non-Korean StarCraft II players in the world at the time.
The Dota 2 team had previously played with the same line-up under the name No Tidehunter for some time . The team subsequently won several tournaments, including the International 2013 and thus the main prize of $ 1.4 million. In a tight final, Alliance defeated the Ukrainian team Natus Vincere 3-2.
In the course of 2013, rumors were confirmed that Alliance was a European offshoot of the e-sports organization Evil Geniuses .
In December 2013 it was announced that the League of Legends team from Evil Geniuses , which had previously played in the European League Championship Series (LCS), will move to North America and Alliance will take over from EG in Europe. From the former EG lineup, which had already played together for about two years, only the players Wickd and Froggen switched to Alliance to continue playing in Europe, while the players Snoopeh , Yellowpete and Krepo stayed with EG and moved to North America. In the Season 4 Spring Split of the LCS, the newly formed Alliance team immediately took fourth place. In the following Season 4 Summer Split, Alliance took first place and qualified for the 2014 World Championship .
In March 2014, StarCraft 2 player NaNiwa was fired as a result of unprofessional behavior during the Intel Extreme Masters Finals in Katowice.
The League of Legends team had to rename itself as part of the LCS Sale of Sponsorships Rule introduced in 2015 and played under the new name Elements from January 2015 to May 2016 .
