Alois Bernhard Schardt (born November 3, 1926 in Limburg an der Lahn , † February 20, 1998 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German journalist and program director of ZDF .

Life

After serving as an air force helper in World War II , he studied cultural studies from 1947 to 1950. In 1951, CDU member Schardt became the personal advisor to Bruno Heck , who became the party's federal manager the following year . From 1954 he also studied psychology in Bonn for two years. In 1961 he went to Bayerischer Rundfunk , where he was initially the chief editor for cultural and educational policy. The then director of the BR, Christian Wallenreiter , commissioned him in 1964 to set up the culture and education department in television programs. He also belonged to Helmut Kohl's inner circle of advisorsbefore this rose in federal politics.

After working for several magazines, especially as editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Publik , Schardt came to ZDF in 1971, where he initially headed the children's and youth editorial department and from 1973 the main program planning department. In 1982 he succeeded Dieter Stolte as program director of the television station. During his tenure, ZDF celebrated great success with series such as Die Schwarzwaldklinik or Das Traumschiff . After he retired in 1988, Alois Schardt taught social and communication sciences at the University of Mannheim . He died in 1998 at the age of 71 in Frankfurt am Main.
