The administrative district consists of the Alor archipelago , in the far east of Nusa Tenggara , north of the island of Timor . It is divided into 17 districts ( Kecamatan ) and 175 villages. The capital is Kalabahi on Alor.

Alor , the largest island, is divided into eleven districts, and Pantar has five districts. The small island of Pura between the two forms its own district.

In addition to two Malayo-Polynesian languages , at least a dozen Papuan languages ​​are spoken in the administrative district.

politics

From 1999 to 2009 Ansgerius Takalapeta was District President Alors. In 2009 he was replaced by Simeon Thomas Pally .
