Alparslan Arslan

Alparslan Arslan (* 1977 in Kiğı ) is a Turkish lawyer and an explosives and pistol assassin .

life and career

Arslan visited the school during the period from 1982 to 1993 and took 1994 his jurisprudential studies at Marmara University on. After graduating in 1998, he started working as a lawyer in 2001.

Arslan and four accomplices are responsible for two attempted (May 5 and 10, 2006) and one completed (May 11, 2006) hand grenade attacks on the Cumhuriyet newspaper building in Şişli , Istanbul .

State Council

On May 17, 2006 at 9:45 a.m. local time, Arslan entered the courthouse of the Turkish State Council , armed with a Glock 19, without being searched because of his job . He went to the fifth floor, where the judges of the second chamber had gathered in the office of the chairman Mustafa Birden . There, at 9:51 a.m. local time, he fired a shot at the four people sitting tightly around a table while fleeing in the corridor. Mustafa Yücel Özbilgin was fatally hit in the head and four other judges suffered serious injuries. At 9:57 a.m. local time, Arslan was arrested by police officers on the first floor.

Arslan's motives could not be fully clarified. On the one hand, a religious motive is assumed, since he is said to have shouted " Osmanlı'nın torunlarıyız, Allah'ın askerleriyiz " ("We are grandsons of the Ottomans , soldiers of Allah ") when the shots were fired and when he was arrested . The 2nd Chamber had previously confirmed the headscarf ban in Turkey .

In February 2008, Arslan was arrested by the judges of the 11th Large Criminal Chamber in Ankara for violating the constitutional order according to Art. 309 Para. 1  tStGB and murder according to Art. 81, 82 lit. a, g tStGB for life imprisonment with stricter enforcement, for attempted murder according to Art. 81, 82 lit. a, g, 35 tStGB in four cases of 15 years imprisonment each, for unauthorized handling of explosive substances according to Art. 174 Para. 1, 2 tStGB imprisonment for four years and nine months, for causing an explosive according to Art. 170 lit. c var. 2 tStGB and damage to property according to Art. 151 Para. 1 tStGB each with a one year imprisonment, for unauthorized possession of weapons according to Art. 13 Para. 1 of Act No. 6136 on firearms, knives and other devices to two years imprisonment and a judicial fine of 450  YTL sentenced. Since 2006 he has been detained in Type F Prison in Sincan , Ankara .

In December 2008 the 9th Criminal Senate in the Court of Cassation overturned the judgment with reference to the Ergenekon trial. On May 18, 2009, the 11th Large Criminal Chamber in Ankara decided to merge the two proceedings, so that Arslan had to answer before the 13th Large Criminal Court in Istanbul . Arslan received life sentences twice.
