The Alpen Wildlife Park Feld am See is a wildlife park with an attached museum . It is located in the Umgebung Valley north of the Ossiacher See or north of Villach in Carinthia , Austria , in the municipality of Feld am See am Brennsee near the winter sports resort Bad Kleinkirchheim .
history
The Alpenwildpark field at the lake was created from a Damwildzucht the farmer Josef Scherzer sen., Which soon deer and mouflon has been extended. The enclosure repeatedly attracted the curious and was finally made permanently accessible to the public from around 1985. A tavern , a children's playground and a petting zoo complemented the offer.
As a result, a museum was created in the former stable building, the "Naturstadel".
A fish preparation collection acquired in 1993 laid the foundation. In 1996, 200 Canadian whole preparations were purchased. The exhibition "Grizzly World" was designed with these preparations . In 2009 a collection of specimens from Namibia was added for the exhibition “Adventure World Africa”.
For families, child-friendly caves and video rooms with films about wild animals have been designed in the “Naturstadel” .
In 2013 the petting zoo was redesigned. A western saloon and a dragon cave for families with children were added.
In 2014 the excursion destination Alpen Wildpark Feld am See was awarded the seal of approval of the state of Carinthia.

Over 30 animal species are shown in an eleven hectare facility . Visitors can walk through the enclosures on extensive paths.
The wildlife park is home to red deer , fallow deer , mouflons , ibex , chamois , wild boar , ragged sheep , four-horned sheep , Hungarian woolly pigs , four-horned goats (a Carinthian domestic animal breed that is threatened with extinction), raccoons , Scottish highland cattle , sika deer and llamas .

In the "Adventure World Africa" approx. 50 exhibits are shown on 500 m² of exhibition space: Antelopes - from the smallest antelope ( Dikdik , 5 kg) to the largest ( eland , 1000 kg), elephants , water buffalo , a mountain zebra , ostriches , baboons , Crocodiles , a giraffe and big cats such as B. Leopards in an accessible cave.
The "Grizzly World" exhibition on 400 m² bear family , moose , elk , bison , caribou , mountain goats , cougars , Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep , wolf pack , coyotes , bobcats , beavers , otters , bald eagles , owls , snowy owl . The Canadian wilderness, like the habitats of the animals in the other exhibition areas, was of course recreated by the painter Günther Schiffko.
In the fish museum there is an aquarium with domestic fish such as carp , lake trout , brown trout , golden trout and also rarer species such as B. Sturgeons . Large specimens of local sea and river fish preparations are shown on an exhibition area of 200 m², from large pike to stone trout . In addition, old fishing tackle and water birds can be seen.
