The hamlet Althaus is located in the district of Nürnberger Land in the state of Bavaria and is one of 22 districts of the municipality of Pommelsbrunn . The place consists of only five properties. Only three of them are permanently inhabited. The beginnings of the hamlet go back to the 19th century, when most of the buildings were built, as homes for day laborers, who at that time were hired out as workers by the farmers of Arzlohe or in Hartmannshof at the local cement works . The reason for the rather lonely location of the hamlet on a slope of the Mühlkoppe below the village of Arzlohe can be seen in the fact that the building land prices were cheaper there in the 19th century than in the village of Arzlohe. It is not known whether the name Althaus has been carried over from the castle stables of the same name, Altes Haus on the Mühlkoppe.
