The Althistorische Narrenzunft Offenburg eV is a carnival association in the tradition of the Swabian-Alemannic Fasent in Offenburg (Ortenaukreis) . The first documentary evidence of the fool's guild can already be found in 1844. The guild is a founding member of the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools' Guilds VSAN.

society

There has been a carnival in Offenburg since the Middle Ages . The great men's carnival in 1483 and a citizens' carnival in 1726 are documented . In
1844 the group “Narrenstaat am Kinzigangel ” was founded. She is the "foolish ancestor" of today's fool guild.
In 1896 the fool friends in Offenburg joined forces in the “ Carnevalsverein ”. They came from all walks of life and wanted to pool their efforts in the association to give carnival joy to themselves and those around them.
In 1924 the fool's guild was a founding member of the Association of Swabian-Alemannic fools' guilds. In the foreword to the first statutes of the Association of Swabian-Alemannic Fools 'Guilds of November 26, 1926, it says "... the Baden and Württemberg ancient historical fools' guilds have joined forces ...". The "Carnevalsverein" founded in 1896 was renamed the "Old Historical Fools Guild".
During this time the first Spättle-Hansele appeared on the streets. The satchel guard was re-established and the first Fasentdaifi (carnival baptism) was celebrated. In 1935 the big meeting of fools took place in Offenburg.
The Second World War brought an interruption to the Offenburg carnival events for a few years. From the fifties onwards, major redoubts, balls and processions took up the pre-war era. On this basis, today's fool's guild, between tradition and progress, has consistently developed.

Two events are the highlights of the ancient carnival in Offenburg:

  • The Redoute is an essential part of the Offenburg Fasent. In contrast to the classic redoubts (masked balls), this is more of a theater play. In this game of fools, global and local events are glossed over .
  • The Fasentdaifi at Schmotzigen Dunnschdig at the Narrenbrunnen has been around for over 50 years. The Fasentkind - the name always has a relation to a local event - is baptized to the applause of many shirt glunkers and presented to the mayor and other personalities of the city for assessment.

The knapsack guard during the storm of the Offenburg town hall

Spättlehansele

The Spättle-Hansele is the central figure of the old historical fool's guild. It wears a happy, laughing mask, which is shaped like a big bean . A tapered hood surrounds the face. The hat ( costume ) consists of around 1500 felt pads in seven different colors. The Spättle draw attention to themselves with a loud rattle and bell on the hat.

Satchel guard

The satchel guard wears the vigilante uniform from around 1850. During the Fasentdaifi, the satchel guard distributes bean soup, which is cooked in the goulash cannon itself. A cannon is carried with the Fasentumzzug , which announces the appearance of the guard with its loud bang from afar. The Guard owes its name to the Baden expression for a well-nourished belly, the "satchel".

Flag throwers and fanfare procession during the funeral of the pheasants

Fanfare procession

The fanfare parade of the old historical fool's guild has existed since 1957. This originally consisted of members of the knapsack guard. The fanfare carries the uniform of a mercenary in the 16th century. The colors are Baden: yellow and red, the front Austrian double eagle emblazoned on the chest as a reminder of the rule of the Austrians in the Ortenau .

Alde

This group has existed since 1968. The costume corresponds to the clothes of a bourgeois woman from the Biedermeier period . The face is covered with a mask made of gauze fabric. In the past, whole groups of women went through the bars and at carnival balls during the carnival season. They fooled people they knew with their pointed tongues.

domino

Since the Fasent 2003 there is again a domino group within the old historical fools guild. The domino is the oldest carnival figure in Offenburg. The first findings for this come from the beginning of the 19th century. Due to its Italian origins, the figure matched the Carneval held at the time. The dominos move from pub to pub over the carnival days, panting through well-known citizens with more or less good jokes, holding them up against missteps or misdeeds without revealing themselves.

Fool advice

The fools 'council, chaired by the guild master, directs the fate of the fools' guild, whereby the decisions are always made in the presence of the officials of the individual groups. Jokingly called the “black smock”, the fool's advice comes in a black jacket, the sleeves and hem of which are decorated with colorful felt pads. A curved cap sits on the head , which is also decorated with felt pads.

Flag thrower

In contrast to some replicas without a historical background, the image of a flag-winger from the 16th century has been preserved in Offenburg . The clothing corresponds to that of a mercenary from the 15th to 16th centuries. Century (then called Lanzknecht ), and is kept in the city colors red and white. In the shoulder area of the jacket and on the beret there is a large St. Andrew's cross as a symbol of the patron saint “St. Andreas ” incorporated.

Veef and Andres during a move

Veef & Andres

Veef and Andres , the fool's parents, are a Biedermeier couple who satirize all the little sins of Offenburg citizens in a relaxed, funny dialogue. Andres' most influential actor was certainly the printer's owner Franz Burda , the father of the entrepreneur Franz Burda , the founder of Burda Verlag .

Bott

The "Bott" is responsible for moderating the events in the hall. It is intended to encourage the audience to participate and to entertain it with its own fun, original contributions. He leads the guild at the street carnival and the processions.

Night watchman

The night watchman , introduced in 1935, goes on Schmotzigen Thursday through the streets of the city, to wake people from 5 am to Fasentdaifi. The night watchman leads the guild when moving, together with the Bott.

Fool performing during the redoubt

fool

The fool is derived from the historical figure of Prince Carneval. The fool appears in the Offenburger Fasent exclusively at the redoubt and glosses over the big politics and the local events in rhyme. The fool wears a brightly colored felt cloth, similar to that of the Spättle-Hansele.

Shirt glunker

The shirt glunkers appear in Offenburg mainly on the fat Thursday and are a popular and simple disguise among young people and unorganized fools. The passive members accompany the guild in this disguise to the Fasentdaifi.

Fool seeds

The youngest of the fool's guild are called fool seeds. Let this seed sprout and flourish so that it can become real fools.
