history

Altingen was first mentioned in writing in 1182, when Margrave Heinrich von Ronsberg donated goods around Altingen and Herrenberg to the Ottobeuren monastery . On July 7, 1299, Count Rudolf von Tübingen, known as the Scheerer, sold his goods in Altingen with the patronage right of the local church for 700 pounds Heller to the Bebenhausen monastery . Around 1330 half of the village was under Austrian and half under Württemberg rule. After the Reformation, only the Württemberg part became Protestant, so that the houses that stood on Austrian soil remained Catholic.

The Catholic parish St. Magnus in Altingen was first mentioned in 1275, the church saint St. Magnus only in 1489. The church is located in the middle of a castle-like walled churchyard, its mighty east choir tower has four floors and an almost square floor plan. The lower part of the tower including the defensive storey should date from the 12th century. The Protestant church was built in the period 1860/61. Altingen and Reusten have a common Protestant parish.

The formerly independent municipality of Altingen merged with five other municipalities to form the municipality of Ammerbuch on December 1, 1971 .

coat of arms

The coat of arms, which was awarded to Altingen in 1954, shows a golden abbot's staff in red. Two diagonally crossed golden ears of corn were placed over it. The intersection was covered by a silver ploughshare. The abbot's staff indicates the earlier ownership of the Ottobeuren and Bebenhausen monasteries in Altingen. The colors red and gold are taken from the coat of arms of the Palatinate County of Tübingen . This coat of arms was valid until Ammerbuch was founded in 1971.
