Location of Breitenholz in Ammerbuch

Breitenholz is a district of the municipality Ammerbuch in the Baden-Württemberg district of Tübingen .

Geographical location

Breitenholz seen from the vineyards

Breitenholz is located on the southwestern edge of the Schönbuch  - just under 2 km north-northwest of the Ammerbuch core town Entringen through which the Käsbach flows . From west to north, the district of Böblingen borders with the Herrenberg district of Kayh to the west . The Ammer , on which the Ammerbuch districts of Altingen , Reusten and Poltringen are located, flows 3.8 km to the southwest .

history

On December 1, 1971, Breitenholz merged with five other municipalities to form the new municipality of Ammerbuch.

statistics

Breitenholz has 768 inhabitants (as of March 2015) and is therefore the smallest district of Ammerbuch in terms of population. The area is 1082 hectares . In terms of area, this makes Breitenholz the second largest district after Entringen . The sea level is between 386 and 550 meters above sea level .

The number of inhabitants has developed less strongly than in the surrounding towns and the entire region.

Infrastructure, public facilities and telecommunications

In Breitenholz there is a town hall, a kindergarten, a church and a parish hall. The primary school is closed. There is a hotel and inn as well as a pizza delivery service. But today there are no more post offices, banks or shops.

Passenger traffic at the Breitenholz train station (building was built in 1909) of the Ammertalbahn , which is a long way from the village, ceased at the beginning of 1960 and the passenger trains have not stopped there since the line was restarted in 1995. There is a recycling company on the station premises. Today a bus line connects the town to the Entringen and Herrenberg stations in regular intervals. Until the 1970s there was also a narrow-gauge railway that transported the plaster from the quarry between Breitenholz and Entringen to the plasterworks at the train station.

After broadband internet access was not available in Breitenholz for years, in August 2009, with funds from the infrastructure funding program of the state of Baden-Württemberg, an empty pipe route was laid into the neighboring Entringen , in February 2010 a fiber optic cable was pulled in to the local exchange after Entringen and finally at the southern entrance to the town (Walterstrasse) an outdoor DSLAM installed, since its commissioning in March 2010 ADSL2 + connections with a bandwidth of up to 16 Mbit / s have been available throughout the town . Cell phone coverage in Breitenholz remains problematic; there is often no reception, especially inside buildings. Only the mobile phone provider E-Plus offers extensive GSM network coverage in the whole of Breitenholz by means of a base station located 800 m northwest of the town center.

Attractions

The ruins of Müneck Castle are located on the edge of Schönbuch above Breitenholz . The builders, the lords of Müneck, are mentioned in a document from 1270 to 1390. When and by what means the castle was destroyed is not documented. Of the castle, apart from a few stones, only the mighty moats are visible. At the mountain spur there is a vantage point which, when the weather is clear, offers a wide view over the Korngäu , the Wurmlinger Chapel to the edge of the Swabian Alb and the Hohenzollern Castle .

The Anthon Museum has been located on Breitenholzer Forsthausstrasse since 2006 . Here the local draftsman and lithographer Hans Anthon Wagner presents art in small picture format. About four hundred 10 × 10 centimeter exhibits are on display.

A variety of field and hiking trails around Breitenholz invite you to walk and hike. Due to the south-facing slope on the edge of Schönbuch , they are particularly popular on sunny winter days.

The history of the parish church Heiligkreuz and Sankt Wendelin goes back to the year 1453, when a chapel in the same place was first mentioned in a document. The church tower has existed since the 14th century, although the attached nave was rebuilt in 1964 after the church house built in 1577 was demolished.

The " Gruabbänke " (Swabian "gruaben" = to rest) are also striking , one of which has been preserved in Breitenholz and two on the outskirts. These high, gate-like stone benches were intended to be used as shelves for heavy carrying baskets and were used as resting places.

Events

On the last weekend in August, the Breitenholz Wine Festival takes place below the vineyards, which has become more and more popular in recent years. Originally, the wine festival was born out of necessity to market one's own pressed wine. The winemakers pressed too much to consume and too small to market commercially. Out of this need the wine festival was born, at which up to 100% of the previous year's wine can be sold on warm, dry weekends. Breitenholz belongs to the Upper Neckar area of the Württemberg wine-growing region . The single layer is called Breitenholzer Hinterhalde.
