Alto Ivon is a town in the Beni department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Alto Ivon is a town in the canton of Ivon and the second largest town in the municipality of Riberalta in the province of Vaca Díez . The place is located at an altitude of 145  m south of the city of Riberalta on the right, eastern bank of the Río Ivon , which flows into the Río Beni about 15 kilometers south of Riberalta .

Alto Ivon is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in the north of the country.

The mean average temperature of the region is 26 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 25 ° C in May and 27 to 28 ° C from December to February (see Riberalta climate diagram). The annual precipitation is around 1300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from June to August with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to January with monthly precipitation of more than 200 mm.

Transport network

Alto Ivon is 525 kilometers by road north of Trinidad , the capital of the department, and 138 kilometers by road south of Riberalta , the nearest city.

From Trinidad, the 602 kilometer long national road Ruta 3 leads west to Yucumo and on to La Paz . In Yucumo, Ruta 3 meets the end of 696 kilometers long Ruta 8 , which leads north via Rurrenabaque and Reyes , reaches El Triangulo after 541 kilometers and continues from there to Riberalta and Guayaramerín on the Brazilian border.

About 41 kilometers south of El Triangulo, a dirt road branches off from Ruta 8 to the east and leads 25 kilometers through sparsely populated area to Alto Ivon .

Most of the 500 or so Chácobos , an indigenous people in the Bolivian Amazon region, live in Alto Ivon . The Chácobo language they speak is one of the pano languages .
