Alysia Montaño (born Johnson ; born April 23, 1986 in Queens , New York City ) is an American middle -distance runner who specializes in the 800 meter distance .

In 2007 she was US champion, eliminated at the World Championships in Osaka in the preliminary stages and was sixth at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro .

In 2010 she won the bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Doha and again won the national title in the outdoor season.

She was fourth at the 2011 World Championships and fifth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . At the World Championships in Moscow , she was again fourth, four hundredths of a second behind the bronze medal. But because Marija Savinova , who was placed in front of her, was disqualified in 2015, she moved up one place in all three competitions. She was awarded the bronze medal at the 2011 and 2013 World Championships. She will receive this at the 2019 World Championships in Doha .

Alysia Montaño grew up in Canyon Country ( Santa Clarita ). In 2008 she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in theater studies . On March 19, 2011, she married Louis Montaño. In June 2014, she caused a worldwide sensation when she ran an 800-meter run at the American Athletics Championships in Sacramento , eight months pregnant . Otherwise their sponsorship money would have been cut significantly.
