Amanda Louise Holden (born February 16, 1971 in Bishop's Waltham , Hampshire ) is a British actress and author.

Life

Amanda Holden's father, Frank Vallely Holden, was a boatman in the Merchant Navy and came from Liverpool . Her mother, Judith Mary Harrison, was a secretary from Gloucestershire . Her father left her mother when Amanda was four years old. Soon after, her mother Leslie married the man Amanda Holden regards as her true father. Her parents bought a guest house in Alum Chine , Bournemouth . Holden went to Swanmore Secondary School in Hampshire for five years . She then studied drama at the Jellicoe Theater , which is now part of Bournemouth and Poole College. She received two A grades and then went to the Mountview Academy of Theater Arts in Wood Green .

Holden met TV presenter Les Dennis in 1993 when both were performing in neighboring theaters. They were married in Bournemouth in June 1995 when they were 24 and he was 40 years old. The marriage broke up after her affair with fellow actor Neil Morrissey . This made them a popular target of the British gossip press. The marriage was divorced on November 18, 2003. Their affair was later parodied in the series Extras .

On January 21, 2006, Holden had a daughter. She comes from the connection with the record producer Chris Hughes , with whom she has lived since November 2004 and has been married since December 2008. You live in Richmond . In her private life she is an avid soccer fan of Everton FC . In April 2008 she took part in the London Marathon on behalf of the “Born Free Foundation” and solicited sponsors for the organization with her own website.

Holden campaigned to prevent a J Sainsbury supermarket from opening in her hometown. Proponents of the settlement criticized her after it became known that she had signed an advertising contract with the UK's largest retail chain, Tesco .

Television career

Holden is best known at home for her role as Geraldine Titley , the main character in the British television comedy The Grimleys . She is also popular as an actress in the series Wild at Heart , Kiss Me Kate and Hearts and Bones . She made her television debut as the unfortunate competitor on the long-running ITV series Blind Date . Her first television role was in a television drama with Edward Woodward . She also appeared on the BBC soap opera EastEnders in 1994. Perhaps best known for her portrayal of Mia Bevan in the BAFTA Award- nominated drama series Cutting It , which ran from 2002 to 2004.

In addition to acting, Holden is a jury member on the ITV show Britain's Got Talent alongside Simon Cowell , Alesha Dixon and David Walliams .

Acting career

Holden has appeared in various stage musicals and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Theater Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her appearance in the West End production Thoroughly Modern Millie in 2004 .

Holden starred opposite Stephen Tompkinson in the ITV drama Wild at Heart . The first series ran in 2006 and a second in 2007. In early 2008, the third series ran in which her title character Sarah is killed.

Other TV appearances include three series of the comedy Kiss Me Kate alongside Caroline Quentin , three series of the ITV comedy series The Grimleys , Celeb with Harry Enfield , the critical BBC series Hearts and Bones alongside Damien Lewis , the comedy series Mad About Alice with Jamie Theakston , and the Christmas special Marple alongside Geraldine McEwan and John Hannah . She also co-stars with Bill Nighy and Sir Tom Courtenay in Ready When You Are, Mr McGill , the classic comedy drama directed by Jack Rosenthal .
