Former consulate building in Siesmayerstraße

The Frankfurt Consulate General was located at Siesmayerstraße 21 ( Westend ) from 1956 to 2005 . The five-storey building was built between 1953 and 1955 according to plans by the architects Skidmore, Owings and Merrill with the assistance of Otto Apel and has been a listed building since 1986. After the Consulate General moved, it was renovated from 2005 to 2007 and has served as an office building ever since.

Since 2005 the consulate has been located in a former US military hospital in the Nordend district on the border with Preungesheim . At this spacious location between Gießener Straße and Homburger Landstraße near the Friedberger Warte , the highest US safety standards can be met.

The Consulate General is closed on both US and German public holidays.

Secret services

On September 8, 2013, German media reported that, in view of a suspected espionage center there, a helicopter of the Federal Police on behalf of the Federal Chancellery and the Federal Ministry of the Interior slowly flew over the consulate premises at a height of 60 m and photographed the buildings and roofs.

In the revelatory series Secret War , NDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung reported in the summer of 2013 that the CIA was planning to kidnap terror suspects in black sites on an industrial site in the east of Frankfurt after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . When filming on the public road for Panorama , John Goetz from NDR caught the attention of the security staff and the German police patrols. The US Embassy in Berlin described the research results as "half-truths, speculations and allegations", as well as "monstrous allegations".

On March 7, 2017, WikiLeaks reported that a "hacker unit" called " Vault 7 " of the CIA was operating from here worldwide.
