Ermias "Amiaz" Habtu (born August 13, 1977 in Asmara , Eritrea ) is a German - Eritrean presenter and rapper , who is mainly from the VOX programs Who knows, who doesn't? and The Lions Den is known.

Life

In 1978 Habtu's father had to flee Ethiopia with his wife and three children for political reasons because he was active in an underground organization; the family found a new home in Cologne . Habtu studied business administration there and graduated with a degree in business administration. Since 2009 he has been the spokesman for the home games of the basketball team of the Düsseldorf Baskets , and from 2001 he has been with the Cologne 99ers team . Since 2003 he has been the moderator of the Beko BBL All Star Days .

Habtu made his first experiences on television between 2004 and 2005 at the now discontinued NBC Europe . Further moderations followed u. a. at iM1 and ZDFneo , where he and Jan Köppen presented the travel and science magazine Abgefahren in 2013 . His first own show, with which he reached a larger audience for the first time, was the VOX street quiz Who knows, who doesn't? , which was broadcast intermittently from December 2013 to the end of August 2015 in the station's noon program. In 2014 he was part of the critically acclaimed anti-racism project Der Rassist in uns , which was also shown on the special-interest channel ZDFneo. Since August 19, 2014, Habtu has been leading the founders' show Die Höhle der Löwen on VOX, which won the German Television Award in the Best Factual Entertainment category in 2016 and was again announced in 2017 as one of three candidates for an award in this category . In addition, the show was nominated for the Grimme Prize in 2015 .

Furthermore, Habtu has been moderating the tabloid magazine Prominent! Since January 2016 . of the station VOX alternating with Laura Dahm .

In December 2000, Habtu released his first own single once upon a time (Mmm, Mmm, Mmm) under his stage name Amiaz , based on the 1993 song Mmm, Mmm, Mmm of the Crash Test Dummies .

In addition, Habtu has been a route commentator at the Rhein Energie Marathon in Cologne for many years and animates the spectators along the route in the vehicle in front.
