Amphoe Sop Prap ( Thai อำเภอ สบปราบ , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː sòp pràːp ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the Province of Lampang . The Lampang Province is located in the northern region of Thailand .

geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise) Amphoe Thoen , OEM Ngam , Ko Kha , Mae Tha of Lampang Province, and Wang Chin of Phrae province .

The main water resources are the Wang River ( Maenam Wang ) and the Maenam Prap (Prap River) .

Doi Chong National Park ( อุทยานแห่งชาติ ดอย จง ) is partly in the district. The park runs through the Thoen District and Mae Phrik across to County Li of Lamphun province . On the eastern side are parts of the Wiang Kosai National Park ( อุทยานแห่งชาติ เวียง โก ศั ย ) in the district of Sop Prap. The park continues across the Long and Wang Chin districts of Phrae Province .

etymology

The name Sop Prap comes from the Maenam Prap , which flows into the Maenam Wang ( Sop means "branch"). The name is also in memory of the former residents of the area who were able to successfully defend themselves against Burmese troops until they withdrew.

history

The circle was demoted to a "branch circle" ( King Amphoe ) of Amphoe Ko Kha on December 28, 1917 . At that time, Sop Prap consisted of the three tambon Sop Prap, Samai and Mae Kua. On January 1, 1953, Sop Prap was given full amphoe status.

  • Sop Prap (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สบปราบ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Sop Prap.

There are also three " tambon administration organizations " ( องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - Tambon Administrative Organizations, TAO)

  • Sop Prap (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สบปราบ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Sop Prap.
  • Samai (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล สมัย ) consisting of the complete tambon Samai.
  • Mae Kua (Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล แม่ กั วะ ) consisting of the complete tambon Mae Kua.
