Amphoe Tha Muang ( Thai : อำเภอ ท่าม่วง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the southern part of Kanchanaburi Province . Kanchanaburi Province is located in the west of the central region of Thailand on the border with Myanmar .

geography

The neighboring counties are (clockwise from north): the Amphoe Dan Makham Tia , Mueang Kanchanaburi , Bo Phloi , Phanom Thuan and Tha Maka of Kanchanaburi Province, and the Amphoe Ban Pong and Chom Bueng of Ratchaburi Province .

The main water resource is the Mae Nam Mae Klong (Mae Klong River) . The Mae Klong weir , which dams the Mae Klong, is also located in this district.

history

The area of ​​Tha Muang was already settled during the Iron Age, as archaeological excavations show. Excavations in 1969 found the earliest glass rings on Thai soil, dating back to the 4th century. There are also numerous references to the processing of iron and to a material culture that was close to that of Funan (in what is now South Vietnam).

The district of Tha Muang was established in 1898 under the name Tai ( ใต้ - south ), the first district chief was called Chom ( ชม ). Later, when the residents of the district moved south to Wat Si Loha Rat Bamrung, the name was changed to Wang Khanai ( วัง ข นาย ). In 1941, when Phra Woraphak Phibun was district chairman, the name was changed again to Tha Muang, after the name of the central tambon .

  • Samrong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล สำรอง ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Phang Tru.
  • Nong Khao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ขาว ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Nong Khao.
  • Nong Tak Ya (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง ตาก ยา ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Nong Tak Ya.
  • Wang Khanai (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล วัง ข นาย ) consisting of the complete tambon Wang Khanai.
  • Tha Lo (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ท่า ล้อ ) consisting of parts of the Tambon Tha Lo.
