Amsi Kern , born Amalie Helfrich (born September 18, 1922 in Munich ; † October 31, 2002 in Prien a.Chiemsee ) was a German folk actress .

Life

Amsi Kern, born as Amalie Helfrich , came from a middle-class Munich family, where folk music and singing were cultivated. Her father was a carpenter .

Her artistic career began at the end of the 1930s in Munich on the stage of the legendary Munich Theater am Platzl as partner of Weiß Ferdl , where she appeared in Bavarian folk plays in the role of adolescent lover. In 1943, Kern went to Russia to look after the troops and to the front theater .

After the end of the Second World War , she met her husband Lothar Kern, who later became artistic director of the Tegernsee Volkstheater , in Munich . In 1964 Kern and her husband took over the Chiemgauer Volkstheater in addition to the Tegernsee Volkstheater . After the divorce from her husband, Kern continued to run the Chiemgauer Volkstheater alone. In 1984 she handed over the management of the theater to her son, the actor Bernd Helfrich , and his wife, the actress Mona Freiberg . Even after her retirement as theater director, Kern continued to appear as an actress at the Chiemgauer Volkstheater. She later switched to the role of the funny old woman , a type of role to which she remained true until shortly before her death. Another son, Andreas Kern , has been in charge of the Tegernsee Volkstheater since 2009 .

Kern also played several times in the comedy nobility from the 1960s . In 1961 she was seen on TV as the waitress Zenzi in the play The Gypsy Room . In the 1970s she played in the BR series Royal Bavarian District Court . She also appeared on stage in Peter Steiner's Theaterstadl .

In addition to her career as a stage actress, Kern was repeatedly seen in recordings and broadcasts of plays on television.

For her artistic merits, Amsi Kern was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit by the Bavarian Prime Minister Edmund Stoiber in July 2000 .
