prehistory

After the lost war of 1866 , the Grand Duchy of Hesse had to cede parts of the territory to Prussia with the peace treaty of September 3, 1866 . This also included the Hessian hinterland (the " Biedenkopf district ") with the district of the Battenberg district court .

In June 1867, Prussia adapted the court organization in the captured areas to its own structure: the previous regional courts were repealed and replaced by local courts.

history

On September 1, 1867, the Battenberg District Court began work. It was equipped with a district judge , the district court of Dillenburg superordinate to him .

As a result of the reorganization triggered by the Courts Constitution Act of 1878, the Battenberg District Court moved to the district of the newly established Marburg District Court with effect from October 1, 1879 .

On June 15, 1947, the Battenberg District Court lost its independence and became a branch of the Frankenberg (Eder) District Court .

On July 1, 1970, this branch was also closed.

The courthouse

In 1732, Chief Forester Carl Johann Philipp Loener von Laurenburg built the " Neuburg " in Battenberg . The castle served as the hunting lodge of Landgrave Ludwig VIII until 1768. After that it was used as an administrative house and forestry office , and from 1835 to 1970 also as a court building. The city administration has been using the castle and the former courthouse built next to it in 1971. The complex is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act .
