founding

The jurisdiction of the first instance has been exercised in the Grand Duchy of Hesse by regional courts since 1821 . In 1835, the judicial districts in the north-west of the province of Upper Hesse were redesigned. The Battenberg Regional Court was established on August 1, 1835. The End

After the lost war of 1866 , the Grand Duchy had to cede parts of the territory to Prussia with the peace treaty of September 3, 1866 . This also included the Hessian hinterland (the " Biedenkopf district ") with the district of the Battenberg district court.

In June 1867, Prussia adapted the court organization to its own structure in the captured areas: the previous regional courts were repealed and replaced by local courts .

The courthouse

In 1732 the " Neuburg " was built in Battenberg by forest master Carl Johann Philipp Loener von Laurenburg . The castle served as the hunting lodge of Landgrave Ludwig VIII until 1768. After that, it was used as an administrative building and forestry office, and from 1835 it was the administrative building of the regional court.
