The District Court of Schotten (until 1879 District Court of Schotten ) was a court of ordinary jurisdiction that existed from 1821 to 1968 and was based in the city of Schotten .

history

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or the landlords . The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. "Landgericht Schotten" was therefore the name for the first instance court in Schotten from 1821 to 1879. In the territorial territories of the province of Upper Hesse there were still legal offices for court cases of second instance in Büdingen and Hungen , which were subordinate to the court. The German Courts Constitution Act of 1879 led to a uniform judicial organization throughout the empire . The "Hofgericht Gießen" has now been renamed the " Landgericht Gießen " ( Regional Court Gießen ) as the superior second instance in the province, while the first instance courts have been renamed the District Court.
