history

Evangelical Church in Kestrich

As is known, the village was first mentioned in writing between 813 and 817, with the place name chisteriche . Other spellings of the place name were Keistriche and Kesterich .

The village was built around a farm belonging to the Lords of Windhausen which later belonged to the Lords of Weiters. From 1717 the place and court belonged to the Schenck zu Schweinsberg .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Kestrich in 1830:

"Kestrich (L. Bez. Alsfeld) evangel. Branch village; is located in the Vogelsberg in a narrow valley at the Felda, such as 3 1 / 4 St. of Alsfeld, and belongs to the Freiherr von Schenk. The place has 77 houses, 413 inhabitants, who are Protestant besides 73 Jews, then 1 chapel, 1 synagogue and 1 mill. The residents are very busy with spinning and linen weaving. "

Next to the half-timbered church is the former Feldatal synagogue . It was built in the 18th century and extensively renovated in 2005.

Territorial reform

On December 31, 1971, in the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipalities of Ermenrod, Groß-Felda, Kestrich, Köddingen, Stumpertenrod, Windhausen and Zeilbach were merged to form the new large municipality of Feldatal.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Kestrich was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or registry lords and thus the patrimonial court of Baron Schenck zu Schweinsberg was responsible for Kestrich. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. Kestrich worked a lot in the judicial district of the " Alsfeld Regional Court ". In 1823 Baron Schenck zu Schweinsberg gave up their rights at the Kestrich court to the Grand Duchy of Hesse. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848. By order of the Grand Ducal Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Justice, Kestrich was ceded to the district of the newly established Ulrichstein District Court on December 1, 1838 .

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Ulrichstein Local Court" and allocation to the district of the regional court of Giessen .

In 1943 the Ulrichstein District Court lost its independence and became a branch of the Schotten District Court . With effect from July 1, 1968, the local court of Schotten was dissolved and Kestrich came to the judicial district of the local court of Alsfeld . The superordinate instances are now, the regional court Gießen , the higher regional court Frankfurt am Main and the federal court as last instance.
