Ermenrod is a district of the Feldatal community in the Vogelsberg district in Central Hesse .
geography
Ermenrod is located on the Vogelsberg in the "Hoher Vogelsberg" nature park. Landesstrasse 3071 and Bundesstrasse 49 meet in the village .
history
The place name ending in -rod suggests a foundation between 800 and 1000 AD.
The village was first mentioned in writing around 1300 under the place name Irmenrade . In 1776, the Protestant half-timbered church , known as Martin Luther Church , which is now a listed building , was built on the site of the previous churches . It is right on the main road.
In the Middle Ages the place belonged to Grafschaft Ziegenhain . In 1450 the last Count of Ziegenhain and Nidda died childless. According to an agreement with the Landgraves of Hesse , in this case the inheritance fell to the Landgraviate of Hesse . But it was not until 1495 that an inheritance dispute with the Counts of Hohenlohe could be settled, when the Hessian landgraves settled the Hohenlohe with 9,000 guilders for the two counties.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Ermenrod in 1830:
"Ermenrod (L. Bez. Kirtorf) evangel. Pfarrdorf is, 3 1 / 2 hrs from Kirtorf on the pulling of Giessen to Alsfeld road, has 71 houses, 354 inhabitants., In addition to 1 Kath. Are Protestant, one church, two milling and oil mill, 1 yard and a basalt quarry . The inhabitants are mainly engaged in spinning and linen weaving. - The place, which occurs earlier under the name Jrmenrade , belonged to the church area of Oberofleiden. "
The Herrenmühle, which is still in operation today, is close to the town.
Territorial reform
On December 31, 1971, in the course of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipalities of Ermenrod, Groß-Felda, Kestrich, Köddingen, Stumpertenrod, Windhausen and Zeilbach were merged to form the new large municipality of Feldatal.

Courts since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus the "Office Homberg an der Ohm" was responsible for Ermenrod. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. “ Regional Court Homberg an der Ohm ” was therefore from 1821 to 1831 the name of the court of first instance in Homberg an der Ohm, which was responsible for Ermenrod. In 1831 the municipality of Ermenrod was assigned to the district court of Grünberg .
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand-ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Grünberg" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen . With effect from January 1, 1882, Ermenrod was assigned to the Alsfeld district court. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Regional Court of Giessen , the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
