Berghofen is a district of Battenberg (Eder) in the northern Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .

geography

The place is in northern Hesse , embedded in the Ederbergland , on the B 236 and is still dominated by agriculture today.

history

The place was first mentioned at the beginning of the 9th century. A noble family "von Berghofen" can be traced back to the 13th century, although its position of power in the town is not clear. Later the von Biedenfeld and von Dunzelshausen estates have goods on site, at times also those of Fleckenbühl. The von Biedenfeld finally prevailed. Around 1300 Siegfried von Biedenfeld inherited a castle seat (manor or small castle) in Berghofen from his father-in-law Heinrich Scharre, the importance of which was lost in the 16th century. Today its location is unknown. From 1476 Berghofen belonged to the Battenberg office .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Berghofen in 1830:

"Berghofen (L. Bez. Battenberg) evangel. Branch village; is 12 St. from Battenberg, has 70 houses and 415 inhabitants, who are Protestant except for 21 Jews. In the area there are broken red sandstones. "

On December 31, 1970, as part of the regional reform in Hesse, the previously independent municipality of Berghofen was incorporated into the city of Battenberg on a voluntary basis . For Berghofen, as well as for all formerly independent municipalities and the core municipality, a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor was set up.

The evang. The church was built in 1912–1913 by architect Ludwig Hofmann (1862–1933) from Herborn.
