history

The Kirchhain court had existed since the Middle Ages. The jurisdiction of the lower courts was in the Hesse-Kassel by the bailiff of the Office Kirchhain perceived.

The reorganization of the judiciary in the Kingdom of Westphalia led to the separation of jurisdiction and administration. The canton of Kirchhain was now responsible for administration, the Kirchhain Peace Court for jurisdiction. The peace court was subordinate to the district court of Marburg , which was responsible for the district of Marburg .

With the fall of the Kingdom of Westphalia after the Battle of Leipzig , the separation of jurisdiction and administration was reversed and the Electorate of Hesse reintroduced the Kirchhain office in 1814.

With an edict of June 29, 1821, administration and justice were separated in Kurhessen. Now judicial offices were responsible for the first instance jurisdiction, the administration was taken over by the districts . In Jesberg, the Kirchhain district was set up for the administration and the Kirchhain justice office as a court. The Amöneburg Justice Office was the assistant office of the Kirchhain Justice Office until 1831.

After the annexation of Kurhessen by Prussia , the justice office became the royal Prussian district court in Kirchhain.

With the entry into force of the Courts Constitution Act, the district court continued to exist under his name. In 1932 the judicial district grew strongly due to the dissolution of the Amöneburg and Rauschenberg district courts . In 1943 the area of the Neustadt District Court (Hessen) was added.

From 1943 to 1972 the Gemünden (Wohra) district court was run as a branch of the Kirchhain district court, but was then assigned to the Frankenberg (Eder) district court . In 1968 parts of the Homberg an der Ohm district court were added.

Courthouse

The judicial office or district court had its seat at Borngasse 33. The official residence of the judicial officer was also located there. With the dissolution of the Kirchhain district, the district office building for the district court became vacant. The move took place in 1932/33. The old building is now a vacant ruin.
