The District Court of Vechta is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of eleven district courts in the district of the Regional Court of Oldenburg .

The seat of the court is Vechta in Lower Saxony , the court district includes the entire district of Vechta . The District Court of Oldenburg is superordinate to the District Court of Vechta ; the competent Higher Regional Court is the Higher Regional Court of Oldenburg .

The main building was erected in 1954 and enlarged in 1977 by an extension. The narrow row of windows on the longitudinal front follows models from the garden city movement of the 1920s, under the roof ridge on the front side to the north is a 2 meter high sandstone relief youth with a lance and pigeon , which was created in 1955 by the Oldenburg artist Marie-Luise Ahlhorn-Packenius . In front of the main entrance in 1993 a bronze sculpture The Ride Against Prejudice by Peter Lehmann from Bissel was placed.

The court is located on a plot of land on which the garden island of Vechta Castle was located in the Middle Ages and early modern times . After the castle was abandoned at the end of the 17th century, the area was used as the garden of the Franciscan monastery, and then as part of the prison area surrounded by walls.
