Anant Singh
Anant Hareebrun Singh (born May 29, 1956 in Durban ) is an award-winning South African film producer, member of the International Olympic Committee and an anti-apartheid activist.
Early years
Anant Singh grew up during apartheid in Durban as a member of the Indian ethnic group . After attending school, he enrolled at the University of Durban-Westville . However, at the age of 18, he dropped out of college to start a business selling 16mm film. Singh began distributing films and founded the distribution company Videovision Entertainment .
Creating as a producer
In 1984, Singh started making feature films. One of his first projects was Africa - Place of Weeping , the first anti-apartheid film to be filmed entirely in South Africa.
In the following years Singh was involved in the production of over 80 films. His anti-apartheid films like Sarafina stand out! (1992) and Cry, the Beloved Country (1995). With a woman named Yesterday (Yesterday) , the first Oscar nomination he achieved a South African film. The 2004 isiZulu twisted film was at the Oscars 2005 in the category of foreign-language Best Picture nomination.
Singh not only produced his films in South Africa, he was also involved in international co-production projects. He has also made films in the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Korea.
In addition to feature films, Singh also produced documentaries. In 1994 he produced Countdown to Freedom , a documentary about the first free election after the end of the apartheid regime. In 1995 Prisoners of Hope: Reunion on Robben Island followed through a meeting of over 1,250 former political prisoners under the leadership of Nelson Mandela .

From 1996, Singh worked with the NOK of South Africa and the City of Cape Town on the application to host the 2004 Summer Olympics . Singh produced the application film, which was shown at the 106th IOC session in Lausanne, Switzerland . In 2011 he produced the application film for the city of Durban to advertise the organization of the 123rd IOC session in 2011 and the Commonwealth Games in 2022 . For his work promoting South African sport, he was made a member of the IOC in 2016 .
Anant Singh serves as chairman of EastCoast Radio , a commercial radio station in KwaZulu-Natal , and director of OFM , a radio station in Bloemfontein . He is also Chairman of Cape Town Film Studios .
