Anastasia
Anastasia ( Greek Αναστασία , Latin Anastásia, the one who will / should be resurrected) is a female given name. It is derived from the Greek noun ἀνάστασις ( anastasis ), which means "resurrection" in Christian usage.
Origin and meaning of the name
The name goes back to the martyr Anastasia of Sirmium , who was also included in the first prayer . Her memorial day in the liturgy was December 25th , which is why in the early Middle Ages the Pope held the second of the three Christmas masses in the early morning in the church of Sant'Anastasia al Palatino , consecrated to her , below the Palatine , in a district inhabited by many Greeks, next to the starting boxes of the Circus Maximus . Today the name is very popular, especially in Russia.
Remembrance day
In the Roman Catholic Church, her feast day is December 25th. In the Greek Orthodox Church, the day of remembrance of Ag. Anastasia is celebrated at Easter and December 22nd .
