André Märtens

André Märtens (born September 2, 1966 in Berlin ) is a German master hairdresser and non-fiction author . He has long been referred to as a “star hairdresser” in the media.

Life

Work and private life

André Märtens was born as the son of Dieter Märtens and Annelies (Anne) Märtens. His mother is also a master hairdresser. His great-grandfather already ran a hairdressing salon in what was then the Sudetenland near Leitmeritz (Sebusein; today: Sebuzín). Grandmother Helene Hieke also worked as a hairdresser.

After an internship, Märtens began his training as a hairdresser at the Harder hairdressing school in Duisburg . He finished his training in his parents' company in Berlin. He has been working as a hairdresser in his profession since 1985. In 1990 Märtens passed his master's examination at the Berlin hairdressing guild. Since 2000 he has owned his own salon in Berlin-Charlottenburg near Kurfürstendamm .

André Märtens has been married to the stage dancer and former soloist of the Friedrichstadtpalast Susann Malinowski since 2002 . He is the father of a son. André Märtens lives in Berlin-Wilmersdorf .

Career and media presence

In 1994 Märtens was given the opportunity to tour Germany for L'Oréal with Jean Luc Minetti (Alexandre De Paris) . In the following years he received engagements in various areas of the hairdressing trade. He worked for fashion shows, for advertising, video and film productions as well as for musical and theater productions. After reunification , Märtens traveled to the new federal states for a few years and passed on his knowledge to professional colleagues, including a. with professional training. In the 1990s he was also an annual stylist in the “Face of Germany” competition, a very popular model casting format at the time .

Since 2007, André Märtens has been the head of hair at Berlin Fashion Week and the main hairstylist in charge of the fashion show. He is considered the "creative mind" behind the hairstyles of the shows at Berlin Fashion Week. André Märtens also coiffed international top models such as Zohre Esmaeli , Lena Gercke , Toni Garrn , Franziska Knuppe or Barbara Meier for international fashion shows and appearances.

Märtens became known to a larger audience in 2014 through the TV format “Hotter than my daughter” (RTL), in which he was seen as a hair stylist at Guido Maria Kretschmer's side . Appearances in “The Most Beautiful Woman in Germany” and “ Shopping Queen ” followed. In 2015 Märtens published the non-fiction book “10 Minuten Hairstyles” by Dorling Kindersley Verlag , which has now been published in five other languages.

In the tabloid media he was portrayed several times as a hairstylist and star hairdresser or consulted as an expert, for example in Focus , in BILD , in BZ or in Grazia magazine .

Märtens is also involved in the charity sector. Since 2011, André Märtens has been involved in the DKMS “Joy of Life” initiative with hair advice and styling tips for people who are affected by the visible effects of cancer therapy.
