Barbara Meier , bourgeois Barbara Hallmann (born July 25, 1986 in Amberg ) is a German model and an actress . She is best known as the winner of the second season of the casting show Germany’s Next Top Model .

Life

Barbara Meier grew up in the Amberg district of Raigering . Meier attended the Dr.-Johanna-Decker-Realschule in Amberg, which she graduated in 2002. She then completed her high school diploma at the Staatliche Fachoberschule in Amberg and began to study mathematics at the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences with the aim of becoming a programmer . In April 2016 she announced that she was in a relationship with the Austrian entrepreneur Klemens Hallmann . She married him in June 2019 and took his family name, but kept her maiden name for public appearances. In 2020 a daughter was born.

During her studies, Meier was approached by a model scout in a shopping center in Regensburg and invited to the show Germany's Next Topmodel . There she took part in the second season of the casting show moderated by Heidi Klum . Meier had no modeling experience before participating. She was able to prevail against 16,000 competitors and was the winner of the season in May 2007.

Meier had editorials in magazines such as Vogue , Madame Figaro , Marie Claire , L'Officiel and Grazia and graced over 15 front pages of German and international magazines, including the Cosmopolitan title for the second time in January 2008 .

Among other things, she was the advertising face in campaigns for the brands Pantene , C&A , Disneyland Paris , Yogurette , Müller Milch and McDonald’s as well as abroad for Maybelline, Fabi, Borsalino, Save the Queen, Colin's Jeans, C'est comme Ca, Caractere, Miss Poem and much more. She has been promoting the cosmetics manufacturer Schaebens since January 2016. She is also the German advertising face of the American shoe brand Skechers and the heart rate monitor manufacturer Polar Electro .

catwalk

Since the beginning of her career, Meier has been on the catwalk for national as well as international brands. At the beginning of 2011 it ran for the fifth time for various designers at the Berlin Fashion Week . In addition to shows in LA, New York, Paris and Bangkok, Meier took part in the Paris Fashion Week in spring 2010, where she was booked by designer Wolfgang Joop for the ready-to-wear show for his Wunderkind brand .

Acting career

In 2010 Meier was invited to a film casting for the ProSieben mystery thriller Screams of the Forgotten and got the role of the deaf medium Morgana. She had no acting experience. After the film was broadcast in autumn 2011, she was signed by the Berlin acting agency Fitz & Skoglund.

In the summer of 2011 she completed basic training at the New York Film Academy and has since taken private acting lessons with various coaches in Germany and the USA. In addition to small roles in television films, she was also seen in leading episode roles in various ZDF crime series, short films and at the side of Christiane Hörbiger . In 2012 she played one of the leading roles in the short film Lullaby . In August 2017 she was in front of the camera for the movie The Aspern Papers . The film by French director Julien Landais is set in Venice in the 19th century.

In 2008 she was ambassador for the Year of Mathematics , to which she was appointed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . In 2012 she was one of the advertising ambassadors for the Deutsches Museum in Munich. In 2013 she took part in the New York City Marathon . She was an ambassador for the IN FORM campaign of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture , which advocates more exercise and healthier nutrition for the population. Since 2015 she has been the WWF ambassador for the “ Ghost Nets ” project , which fights plastic waste in the sea and provides information on the environmental impact and dangers of fishing nets floating in the sea.

Since 2017 she has been the ambassador of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development for fair and environmentally friendly fashion. In December 2015 her book Your way to the happiness weight was published by Dorling Kindersley . In 2018, she took part in the 11th season of the RTL show Let's Dance alongside Sergiu Luca and initially retired in the fifth round, but then returned to the show as a replacement for the injured candidate Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht and took the third Space.
