Rico, Oskar and the deep shadows

Rico, Oskar und das Herzgebreche is a German children's film by Wolfgang Groos , which opened in German cinemas on June 11, 2015.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Andreas Steinhöfel , published by Carlsen Verlag in 2009, and is the sequel to Rico, Oskar und die Tieferschatten  (2014).

action

Rico Doretti, who says of himself that he is “gifted”, dreams in his mind how his mother and the policeman Simon Westbühl step in front of the altar. Suddenly his mother Tanja pulls him out of his dreams and presents him with a card from his friend Oskar, who has been on the road for so long that, to Rico's great joy, Oskar himself is standing in front of his door shortly after, because he will stay with him for the night. First of all, a visit to the pizzeria “Bei Raffaele” is on the program. There Rico tells his friend that he always orders seafood pizza at the pizzeria because a big fish pulled his father into the water, who drowned. That is his revenge. With their order, the boys bring the waitress to despair, which ends unpleasant for a guest.

Then they accompany Ricos mother to the bingo led by Ellie Wandbek . Tanja Doretti wins the game. Oskar reacts strangely, but does not want to say what concerns him. Only the next day did he come out with the fact that he had seen that Rico's mother had cheated at bingo and that Frau Wandbek had to be in league with her. The bags that are won are not made of plastic, but of real snakeskin, with which one can earn a lot of money. Shortly afterwards, when the boys see Rico's mother come out of the house with a large garbage bag, they follow her. Tanja Doretti goes directly to Ellie Wandbek, gives her the remaining bags in the garbage bag and a large amount of money. She doesn't want to take part anymore, she tells Ellie. However, she only takes the money and puts Tanja under pressure by saying things whose connection is not yet clear to the boys at the moment. The gifted Oscar already has a plan. First of all, you have to find out where these bags come from. So they shadow Ellie Wandbek. When she realizes that a fake phone call came from Tanja's apartment, she puts her son Boris on the young woman, who is supposed to scare her. Boris is also Teresa's boss in the nightclub where she works, but not nearly as sneaky as his mother. However, he doesn't dare to contradict her.

Oskar quickly realizes that you need someone who has a car for a chase. Rico suggests Ludger van Scherten, whom he met at bingo and who owns an old red Mercedes. During their pursuit tour, they have to get out of the car and fight their way through a corn field to a barn, where Ellie Wandbek and her son load large packages into their car. "You have fetched more supplies", says Oskar and that you absolutely have to get the key that Boris has attached to his key ring. This could prove that he had access to the barn with illegally acquired things. Van Scherten offers to take the key as he has access to the nightclub. However, the boys are worried and follow him, accompanied by their neighbor Elke Dahling, who believes that two little boys cannot be allowed to walk around alone at night. When the trio arrives at the nightclub, some unforeseen things happen, but the young detectives cleverly turn them around in their favor. So in the end, the boys can not only get the key, but also overwhelm Boris and use what they have found to solve the case. Mother and son Wandbek are taken away by the police.

Now Rico also learns from his mother what the strange remark by Ellie Wandbek is all about. Ellie Wandbek wanted to give Ricos father, who is not dead but lives in Italy, a hint where he could find his son. That's the only reason she got involved in the deal. Tanja explains to Rico that there are people who are so dissatisfied with themselves that they use violence against others. That's why she left his father at the time. Rico senses what his mother wants to tell him and that she wanted to protect him. After it had been clarified beforehand that Rico had wrongly suspected Simon Westbühl of having a girlfriend, the policeman now appears with Oskar, who will initially live with them, and with Frau Wandbek's little dog, who usually goes to the hospital Animal shelter. When Tanja and Simon kiss, the boys retire contentedly to their room, where they fall asleep peacefully. Between them lies a small dog who also feels safe after going through a lot with Ellie Wandbek.

criticism

The film service described the "mixture of crime thriller and description of the milieu" as an "exciting as well as amusing continuation" of the experiences of the two friends. The film is sometimes "staged with more gossip and a little less sensitivity than the first part", but scores "again because of its serious involvement with the feelings of its child protagonists".

The German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) justified its decision to award a title with the fact that "the second adventure [...] to the great children's and youth film success Rico, Oskar and the Tieferschatten from 2014 in terms of ingenuity, fun and excitement in no way inferior to ". It was also found that Milan Peschel, Katharina Thalbach, Moritz Bleibtreu, Henry Hübchen, Ursela Monn, Ronald Zehrfeld and Karoline Herfurth play "their roles with joy and a wink of humor". “But [are] the heroes undoubtedly Anton Petzold and Juri Winkler as Rico and Oskar.” Finally, it was said that the film was “a warm-hearted and perfectly staged film fun for the whole family”.

Cinefacts .com was he believes that the secret of success of the film is that the director "not [see] with his own eyes by the camera, but his young audience" and drew the conclusion: "It is the continuation of a small sensation: ?? Rico, Oskar and the deep shadows ?? brought the long-believed genre of children's crime to life. ?? Rico, Oskar and the broken heart ?? continues this successful concept excellently. "

At Ges. FreundeDerKuenste it was read that the newcomers Henry Hübchen "as an aging bon vivant" and Moritz Bleibtreu "as a stuttering villain would have a lot of fun". They would also like "the smart, lifelike dialogues, the fresh soundtrack with casual German lyrics and original animated insertions in which either events from the past [...] or complicated foreign words are explained in a playful way". The recommendation was: After all, adults can also take something rich with them on their way home from this adventure fun, which is educationally valuable in the best sense and which in many moments reminds of the great Erich Kästner films.

Also Screenrush concurred with this opinion and ruled: "And Rico, Oskar and the Herzgebreche 'another great movie fun for the whole family is also under new artistic command, become that barely falls short of the first part. [...] The lion's share in the success of the film [would] go to the highly talented young actors Anton Petzold and Juri Winkler. "
