Andreas Bauer Kanabas

Andreas Bauer Kanabas is a German opera singer with a bass voice who performs internationally, also as a concert singer. Until December 2018 he performed under the name Andreas Bauer . He is a member of the Frankfurt Opera ensemble . In addition to Mozart's Sarastro and kings like Verdi's Philip II of Spain and Wagner's brand , his repertoire also includes roles such as Duke Bluebeard , Tiresias , and Ibn-Hakia .

Life

Andreas Bauer Kanabas was born in Jena and grew up there in a musical family. He learned to play the piano from his mother and sang in children's choirs. He initially studied sound engineering with the aim of doing this . Then he studied singing at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and at the Liszt School of Music Weimar with Eugen Rabine . He took private lessons from Paolo Barbacini in Italy and Robert Lloyd in London. During his studies he was engaged at the Eduard-von-Winterstein-Theater in Annaberg-Buchholz , where he learned many great roles. He then moved to the ensemble of the Theater Würzburg .

Bauer Kanabas was a member of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden from 2007 to 2012 , where he appeared in roles such as Titurel in Wagner's Parsifal , directed by Daniel Barenboim , Colline in Puccini's La Bohème and Timur in Turandot , directed by Andris Nelsons . He embodied Sarastro in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte , Don Basilio in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia , and Trulove in Stravinski's The Rake's Progress , directed by Ingo Metzmacher .

Bauer Kanabas has been a member of the Frankfurt Opera since 2013 , where he took on roles such as Vodník (Wassermann) in Dvořák's Rusalka , Marke in Wagner's Tristan und Isolde and Daland in Der fiegen Holländer , Fiesco in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra and Philipp II in Don Carlos . His interpretation of King Heinrich in Wagner's Lohengrin was honored, his voice was wonderfully timed as a “bright, wonderfully even bass”, and his convincing performance. In the title role of Bartók's Duke Bluebeard's Castle , staged by Barrie Kosky , he played “with great atmospheric density” alongside Claudia Mahnke as Judith. In October 2018 he took on roles in two one-act acts, Tiresias in Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex (sung in Latin) and Ibn-Hakia in Tchaikovsky's last opera Iolanta (in Russian), staged by Lydia Steier and directed by Sebastian Weigle .

In 2015, Bauer Kanabas appeared as a hermit in Weber's Der Freischütz at the Semperoper in Dresden, conducted by Christian Thielemann , in a performance that was recorded. He sang for the first time at the Seattle Opera as Zacharias in Verdi's Nabucco , directed by Carlo Montanaro , and has been called basso profondo by one critic . He also sang the role in Riga at the Latvian National Opera , where he appeared as Méphistophélès in Gounod's Faust . Bauer sang on other international stages, in particular as Sarastro at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, the Komische Oper Berlin , in Abu Dhabi, Budapest and Malmö . He worked with conductors such as Claudio Abbado , Colin Davis , Gustavo Dudamel , Philippe Jordan and Simon Rattle .

Farmer Kanabas also practices concert and oratorio singing. He sang the bass part in Mozart's Requiem at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in Verdi's Requiem at the Gasteig in Munich. His repertoire also includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Handel's Messiah and Dettinger Te Deum , Haydn's The Creation and Nelson Mass , Beethoven's Missa solemnis , Schumann's scenes from Goethe's Faust , Mendelssohn's Elias and Paulus , A German Requiem by Brahms, Dvořák's Stabat Mater and Puccini's Messa di Gloria .
