He was one of the best German tennis players from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. In the tennis Bundesliga he was active from 1980 to 1990 for the TC Blau-Weiß Neuss . After his active career, Maurer initially worked as a tennis coach in professional tennis. Until 2009 Andreas Maurer ran a tennis school (New Tennis Generation) together with Marc-Kevin Goellner . In 2009 he founded the Andreas Maurer tennis base and academy , which he has been running ever since.
