Andrew Tsien Chih-ch'un
Andrew Tsien Chih-ch'un , Chinese 錢志 純 , Pinyin Qián Zhìchún (born April 9, 1926 in Zhejiang , Republic of China , † February 17, 2009 in Taipei , Taiwan ) was Bishop of Hualien in Taiwan.
Life
Andrew Tsien entered the 1947 Seminary of Jiaxing one. When Mao Zedong came to power in China on October 1, 1949, he moved to Genoa , Italy , to continue his studies . He studied philosophy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1953 .
In 1960 Tsien went to Taiwan and worked there in pastoral care in Hsinchu , Keelung , Taipei and Xinzhuang . In 1966 he became dean of the Philosophy Faculty of the Catholic Fu-Jen University . In 1970 he became director of the Institute for Philosophical Research, and in 1984 of the FJU Art Institute.
In 1992 Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Hualien . The episcopal ordination donated him on April 11, 1992 Dominic Tang Yee-ming SJ , Archbishop of Canton ; Co - consecrators were Joseph Ti-kang , Archbishop of Taipei , and his predecessor and later Cardinal Paul Shan Kuo-hsi .
Bishop Tsien served in both the official Roman Catholic Church and the Chinese Underground Church of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association (CCPA) .
In 2001, John Paul II granted his age-related resignation.
