Aneilema zebrinum is a species of the genus Aneilema inthe Commelina family (Commelinaceae). The specific epithet zebrinum comes from Latin , means 'striped' and refers to the striped leaves of the species.

description

Aneilema zebrinum is a creeping, perennial herbaceous plant whose roots are not tuberous. The two-line, glossy, greyish green leaves are striped lighter and occasionally show maroon lines. Your leaf blade is up to 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.

The laterally appearing inflorescence pierces the leaf sheath . It usually consists of a single wrap . The four, rarely up to six, flowers reach a diameter of up to 1 centimeter. Their petals are light lilac. The lower petals are cup-shaped. The ovary is triple.

The capsule fruits have a length of 3 to 4 millimeters and a width of 2 to 3 millimeters. They are fuzzy haired.

Systematics and distribution

Aneilema zebrinum is found in Ethiopia , Kenya , Tanzania and the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal at altitudes of 10 to 1150 meters.

The first description by Alberto Chiarugi was published in 1951. A synonym is Ballya zebrina (Chiov. Ex Chiarugi) Brenan (1964).
