Aneilema is a genus of plants fromthe Commelina family (Commelinaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek words a- , Toggle for without 'and Eilema for, envelope', and points out that the inflorescences are not enveloped by conspicuous bracts.
description
The species of the genus Aneilema are annual and perennial herbaceous plants with occasionally tuberous roots and differently shaped leaves .
The inflorescence consists of individual coils or coils arranged in panicles . There are no noticeable bracts. The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic . Their three free sepals are the same. The three free petals , however, are often unevenly or differently colored. The upper pair of petals is nailed, white or purple to lavender or yellow to orange. The often inconspicuous lower petals are greatly reduced. They are seldom enlarged. Of the six stamens , rarely five, the three front ones are fertile. Occasionally the middle of them is sterile. The two to three posterior ones are staminodial . The stamens are the same. More often the middle one is shorter. The stamens are all bare or the side of them are bearded. The anthers of the middle stamens usually differ from the lateral ones. Reduced anthers are usually bilobed. The ovary is three or two-sided. Ventral compartments contain one to six single row ovules . The dorsal compartment is not developed or usually contains only one ovule.
The fruits are capsule fruits with mostly two valves. They contain seeds with a linear hilum and dorsal embryo .
