The Angel is a 38.2 km long orographically right tributary of the Werse in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany .

Surname

The name is derived from the Indo-European root * ank - to denote a curvature. Germanic * angula "hook" and Old Saxon angul "angel" are based on this. It is believed that reference is made to the curved shape of the water.

geography

The fishing rod rises about 1 km north of Vellern at an altitude of 132  m above sea level. NN . The spring itself is a pond. The water from the lower soil layers collects there before it runs off as a trickle. From here it goes to the northwest, but changes direction often.

Upper course of the fishing rod
Upper course of the Angel 100 meters from the source

First the river flows around Neubeckum in the north and then flows to Enniger . Shortly before reaching the outskirts, the fishing rod picks up the Biesterbach on the right. Enniger is passed on the southern outskirts. The Hellbach flows a few kilometers downstream on the left . At the hamlet of Watermann, the Nienholtbach also flows to the left of the Angel. East of Sendenhorst , the course turns in a northerly direction so that the village is not affected. At the hamlet of Witte the Vossbach and a little later the Wieninger Bach flow out on the right . In the following section to Wolbeck the river has been straightened. Wolbeck itself has a winding flow. In the place the Piepenbach flows into the Angel, which a little later even in Angelmodde at 48  m above sea level. NN flows into the Werse on the right .

On its 38.2 km long path, the Angel overcomes a difference in altitude of 84 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 2.2 ‰. It drains a catchment area of 195.134 km².
