Angelus Häussling

Angelus Häußling OSB (born April 19, 1932 in Lambrecht (Palatinate) as Albert Häußling ; † July 11, 2017 in the Maria Laach Abbey ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and Benedictine .

Life

Albert Häußling was a son of the lawyer Aloys Häußling and his wife Maria, geb. Locksmith. The couple's nine children also included the lawyer and rector Josef M. Häußling .

Albert Häußling studied theology and philosophy in the Benedictine monasteries of Maria Laach and Beuron . In 1951 he joined the religious community , took the religious name Angelus and made his profession on March 22, 1953 . On July 27, 1958, he received the sacrament of ordination . From 1961 he continued his studies at the Universities of Innsbruck (there with Karl Rahner, among others ) and Salzburg . Häußling received his doctorate in theology on March 25, 1965 in Salzburg . From 1968 until his death he was a librarian at Maria Laach Monastery.

Angelus Häußling was an academic teacher at the Liturgical Institute in Trier and at the universities of the Steyler Missionaries in St. Augustin and the Redemptorists in Hennef-Geistingen . In 1976 he was appointed associate professor for liturgical science and in 1980 full professor for liturgical science and sacramental theology at the PTH Benediktbeuern . He held this office until his retirement in summer 2000.

From 1986 to 1996 he was an advisor to the liturgy commission of the German Bishops' Conference .

On November 15, 2000, Häußling received an honorary doctorate from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg (Switzerland) .

He died on July 11, 2017 after a long illness at the age of 85 in Maria Laach Abbey.
