Altnaundorf

The Altnaundorf street is an inner-city street in the Saxon town of Radebeul , at the same time it represents an urban square as an anger . With its development, it is the actual settlement core of the Naundorf street anger village . In a broader sense, Altnaundorf therefore also refers to the medieval village center of the German eastern settlement . In 1144 Naundorf ("New Village") was first mentioned in a document.

Although Naundorf surrounds Zitzschewig in the east, south of this with its industrial area it forms the western outer border of the Lößnitz villages towards Coswig , more precisely towards Kötitz . Altnaundorf is located as Elbort a little away from the river on an elevated sand terrace. The village center, which runs from south to north, lies south of Meißner Strasse , separated from it by the Leipzig – Dresden railway line . Two railway underpasses connect the avenue with the trunk road; the Coswiger Straße, which runs directly to the north, leads past the Radebeul-Zitzschewig stop directly to Altzitzschewig . This is part of the historic church route from Zitzschewig and Naundorf to the responsible church in Kötzschenbroda . The second underpass to Meißner Straße is just east of Altnaundorf, where it today connects Meißner Straße with Niederwarthaer Bridge and over this with the left bank of the Elbe.

The Altnaundorf road runs from south to north. It forms an elongated oval. The green area in the middle is divided roughly in the middle: In the south part there is an elongated fishing pond, the north part is a pure green area. The historic school building (house number 40) is located on the dividing path in the middle . The north end of the street ranger forms a widening of the square, from which several streets branch off on the north side, including the Coswiger Straße to Zitzschewig. On the south side of the widening, i.e. towards the Anger, stands the Naundorf war memorial , a memorial for those who died in the village in the First World War.

At the south end of the street green on the inside is the former village fountain and the now felled and newly planted Bismarck oak. On the outside, the No. 1 inn was the Naundorf inn , first mentioned in a document in 1349 and demolished in 2012 after a long period of vacancy. From there the actual thoroughfare leads on the east side, which also continues to the south and leads out of the Anger. In the Middle Ages, the extension of this road led directly to the Elbe and from there via a ford or by ferry to the other side of the river.

On the west side of the village there is a narrower road as access to the property. The remaining courtyards (mostly three-sided courtyards ) standing here on the outside of the Angers gable have house numbers 2–17 according to the horseshoe numbering scheme from south to north. At the northern tip of the widening is the address Altnaundorf 18. On the east side, numbers 19–38 come from north to south; No. 39 is at the exit to Kötitzer Straße. The residential (stable) houses are located on the Anger for all courtyard properties, behind them are the barns and further behind are the former agricultural areas. These have a strip shape.

The Anger Altnaundorf is mentioned in the Dehio handbook : Most of the Radebeul village centers have retained their village character. In GDR times, the entire street under the name Altnaundorf was listed as a monument to cultural history from 1973 at the latest . After the fall of the Wall, the ensemble protection was given up, but today most of the properties there are listed as cultural monuments on a site and are therefore listed in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul-Naundorf , some with several buildings: In addition to the war memorial , these are the addresses Altnaundorf 2 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 37 , 40 .

The archway of the three-sided courtyard Altnaundorf 29 is dated to the year 1597. It is the oldest dated building in the village next to the cellar barrels of the farms. The former school in the Angermitte dates back to 1783. It has survived numerous village fires, including that of 1822, to which almost the entire village fell victim. Therefore, most of the buildings around the Anger date from the time of reconstruction right after the fire of 1822.

The scoop and draw well at the southern end of the Angers Altnaundorf served as a public water dispenser for centuries. It was closed with plates by the municipality in 1896 and rediscovered in 1996 during excavation work. It has been restored since 1998/99.

Naming

For a long time the street green was called Hauptstraße . The expansion in the north was colloquially called Höpplerplatz after 1920 after a local teacher . In 1924, with the unification of the western Lößnitz localities to form a large community and then the town of Kötzschenbroda , the road system was given the name Altnaundorf , as it is still valid today.

In Kötzschenbroda as the capital of the new town, the local area kept its name Hauptstraße , which was only changed when it was merged with Radebeul in 1935 to form the new town of Radebeul because of the main street in Altkötzschenbroda .
