Anna-Liese Friederike Auguste Schwieger (born May 4, 1899 in Rostock as Anna-Liese Friederike Auguste Müller , † June 9, 1974 in Elsterwerda ) was a German teacher , Christian Democratic politician and women's rights activist who, in March 1957, with the Clara Zetkin Medal was honored.

Anna-Liese Schwieger, daughter of the Rostock businessman Willhelm Müller and his wife Maria († 1953), b. Schumacher was born, received a christian - civic education and married in 1934 in Halberstadt making teacher Friedrich Wilhelm law.

Since Schwieger refused to join the NSDAP , he was transferred to Elsterwerda , where the couple stayed for life. Friedrich Schwieger worked in Elsterwerda at the high school in the Elsterschloss . During the teacher shortage caused by the Second World War , Anna-Liese Schwieger, who had no teacher training, began teaching in 1941. She had previously acquired the necessary knowledge self-taught . In 1950, Schwieger also worked as a new teacher in the GDR , before taking the teacher examination in 1955 at the age of 56. She worked in the elementary school in Elsterwerda-Biehla .

Social policy work

In the post-war period, impressed by the struggle for survival of the many war widows, Anna-Liese Schwieger began to get involved in society shortly after the end of the war and to fight for equal rights for women. In 1947 she became a founding member of the Elsterwerda local group of the Democratic Women's Association of Germany (DFD), a women's organization that saw itself as the legacy of the women's movement in the GDR . In 1950 she also took over the chairmanship of the social committee in the local city parliament. In 1952 she joined the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and shortly afterwards was elected chairman of the local municipal group, member of the Liebenwerda district assembly , member of the Cottbus district committee of the CDU and, in the elections to the Volkskammer in 1958, was elected successor candidate.

She also volunteered in youth and women's welfare and was, among other things, active in the youth welfare commission of the city of Elsterwerda. In addition, she also took care of the elderly as part of her offices.

Anna-Liese Schwieger died in 1974 and was buried next to her husband in the local mountain cemetery.

Anna-Liese Schwieger has received numerous awards for her commitment. Among other things, twice the badge of honor of the Democratic Women's Association and the Pestalozzi Medal . On March 7, 1957, she was awarded the Clara Zetkin Medal in the Berlin House of Ministries “As a token of recognition of outstanding performance in realizing equal rights for women in the German Democratic Republic” , combined with an annual honorary pension of 300 marks .

Since May 2020 a plaque from the project “ FrauenOrte im Land Brandenburg ” in front of the small gallery “Hans Nadler” has been commemorating Anna-Liese Schwieger. The painter Hans Nadler , who also worked as a teacher at times and after whom the gallery was named, was considered a close friend of the Schwieger family, who were interested in literature and art. The plaque was unveiled in the presence of the Frauenorte project manager Sabine Scheuerer, the initiator Gustav Bekker, the mayor Dieter Herrchen, the district administrator of the Elbe-Elster district Christian Heinrich-Jaschinski and the future mayor of the city of Elsterwerda Anja Heinrich .
