Anna Larsson (born September 10, 1966 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish opera singer with an alto voice .

life and work

Larsson attended the Adolf Fredriks music class in her hometown and then studied at Operastudio 67 and at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm . She made her operatic debut as Erda in Wagner's Rheingold at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin under Daniel Barenboim . With this and other Wagner roles, such as Kundry , Waltraute and Fricka , the Orphée in Gluck's Orphee et Euridice , the Zia Principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica or the Dalila in Saint-Saëns' Samson et Dalila , she has appeared at numerous European opera houses, at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, in Valencia, at La Scala in Milan, at the Theater de la Monnaie in Brussels and at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. She has also performed in Florence, at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence , in Copenhagen and at the Finnish National Opera .

At the Salzburg Festival , the contralto debuted in the summer of 2000 in a concert of the Berlin Philharmonic under Bernard Haitink with the piece in double depth of Wolfgang Rihm . In 2011 and 2013 she returned to the city of Mozart for Mahler interpretations with the Vienna Philharmonic and El Sistema . Larsson made her debut at the Vienna State Opera on April 27, 2008 as Erda in Siegfried , a role that she sang 14 times in the Haus am Ring, later also in the same role in Rheingold , 9 times so far. On March 29, 2015 she made her role debut as Klytämnestra in Uwe Eric Laufenberg's new production of Elektra at the Vienna State Opera, conducted by Mikko Franck .

Larsson has made a name for herself internationally on the concert stage, above all as an interpreter of the works of Gustav Mahler . Her first international concert appearance took place in 1997 with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Claudio Abbado in Mahler's Second Symphony. With Abbado she recorded Mahler's second and twice his third, the third also under Esa-Pekka Salonen and Valery Gergiev . She also sang with Zubin Mehta , Wladimir Jurowski , Sir Simon Rattle , Antonio Pappano , Gustavo Dudamel , Seiji Ozawa , Kurt Masur , Lorin Maazel , Alan Gilbert and Nikolaus Harnoncourt . In December 2010 the singer was appointed Swedish court opera singer , and in 2011 Anna Larsson opened her own Vattnäs Concert Barn in the village of Vattnäs near Mora in Dalecarlia.
